The pike is by far the most popular freshwater predator. From small canals to huge lochs there can be few waters that do not hold old esox. The wide variation in habitat and the size range of pike encountered means that there is no such thing as a universal pike rod. That’s why we have two models in this range! One for most pike fishing situations and the other for the extremes of distance casting and bait size. The Piker Deadbait rods are very modestly priced, yet highly functional and packed with features. The 2.75lb test curve rod will deal with most pike fishing situations encountered on drains, rivers and still waters when used with 15lb mono or 30lb braid. Its sensitive playing action is backed by a powerful butt section to cope with the hardest fighting fish and is a delight to use. The beefed up 3.25lb test curve version is ideal for bigger baits or where there’s a need to cast greater distances such as big pits and reservoirs. Despite the increased power, many big pike specialists will see this as their ‘standard rod’ as it still retains the forgiving playing action that is a feature of this range. This rod would also be an ideal weapon for the bigeel angler and is capable of dealing with quite large catfish too. Normally suited for use with 15lb mono or 30lb braid but can cope with 20lb mono or 50lb braid for heavy hauling situations.
